What is Big Bag Recovery?

Big Bag Recovery is the Australian Government Accredited Product Stewardship scheme for plastic bags over 15kg/l of contents (sacks and bulk bags). The program only includes recyclable bags that are woven polypropylene (wPP) and low density polyethylene (LDPE). The program allows for two sizes: sacks and bulk bags

Big Bag Recovery Accreditation Update

Big Bag Recovery’s product stewardship scheme was accredited from March 2021 to 15 March 2026 under the Australian Government Product Stewardship program.

Our reaccreditation application was submitted in January 2026 and is currently under assessment by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.

While the review is underway, we are continuing to manage the scheme in line with previous accreditation requirements and all recovered plastics continue to be managed responsibly.

Members and stakeholders can continue to participate in the scheme with confidence and we will provide updates once the reaccreditation decision is confirmed.

Big Bag Recovery is bound to the terms of its accreditation.
This includes a performance matrix and reporting. More information can be found on the Federal Government website.
